 Map pools and map candidates for different game types

Since TDM is gaining popularity we might want to get some more proper maps into the server map pool. Below is a list of candidates. Any cpm<#> maps that aren't linked can be found in the CPMA map pak.

TDM

  • for 2v2, there is Bloodrun ztn3dm1 with a quad
  • nodm18
  • ospdm5a
  • cpm4a
  • cpm18r
  • another 2v2 map, cpm29


DUEL
  • cpm29 (again from 2v2
  • cpm22 is the proper aerowalk version (hub3aeroq3 is the first attempt by the same mapper), although it will probably just make me cry for CPMA physics
  • cpm24 (frantic), which is now also a QL and Q4 map AFAIK


Clan Arena/Elimination
  • noca1, a nice The Edge remake (q2dm1)

Also for Duel and 2vs2 TDM http://lvlworld.com/#c=m1&i=2018&d=8%20Feb%202012&m=All&p=review&q=monsoon It's like the Bloodrun of Q4 Nice and Sweet but also alot of space to have fun. 1 YA 1 RA and 1 MH Spawn (as far as I know Quad is Changed with YA in TDM but don't nail me on it!)

Definitely leave the old one on the server at least. The problem is that the old blue version got really popular in Q3 right before the new one was released. In CPMA this wasn't a problem as the new one is part of the core map pack. But people might care about map statistics, playing what they're used to, etc. The new one has better armour placement, though.

On second thought, ospdm1 might be the better option for CA, simply because you cannot camp underwater at rail. It is also by far the most well-known one, as it's part of the ops map pack.

And if we put ospmaps0.pk3 on the server, we get ospdm5 (would render teddm1 obsolete), ospdm8 (decent duel map) and ospdm6 (large tdm map) for free Very happy I think there is also a dedicated CA map in there.

The other maps all check out, very nice.

Since we've got a couple of new maps, and testing them seemed quite successful, maybe we can adjust some map rotation files.

    CA:
  • ospdm1

    TDM:

  • remove overkill (not a TDM map at all)
    Duel:
    duel rotation seems not so important as people mostly vote anyway

  • cpm22 <- if this one is up there in one of the top slots, it'll get noticed more
  • cpm24 <-is that one on the server yet?


One might flip the order about a bit, especially on the CA rotation to advertise newer maps. After all, the rotation starts over after someone voted overkill/dm6 for the umpteenth time.

Oh, and of course any other additions/deletions you see fit. Seems to have quite a bit of power especially when people just vote nextmap half the time.

The big problem is the DM rotation list..we have to select less maps..because having all these maps mean that we'll never play some of them! unless we use the callvote map..

..maybe there's a solution > http://aftershock.wikia.com/wiki/Mapcycles but first we have to test all them!

@ piggie and all regular DUEL/TDM/DM players (wolfie, ghost etc) : check these maps..and if there's some maps to add or delete just post a new msg there! i wanna your feedback! Smilie

Very nice, Light!

I wasn't able to check all the maps yet, but here are some preliminary ideas:

Duel:
  • add ospdm8 (I have plans for this one as a training map)
  • perhaps add q3dm6tmp somewhere at the bottom (there is a caveat)
There is somewhat of bit of a problem with the dm6 versions on this server. Both q3dm6tmp and dc_map11 do not have the right item layout for duel. The usual 'tmp' version popular in q3 had a mega and the RA/YA layout, just like the pro-q3dm6 later released by id. The version on the server does not. Since this map is in heavy use in CA, I think it'd be confusing to people if it were to be replaced. It also seems kind of a waste to add a third version.
DM:
I suggest we remove all the CA maps from the list (but still allow people to vote for them). They're usually not that great in DM anyway, plus frankly, we've played them to death. On top of it all we have so many new maps that might not even be seen at all if they're hidden somewhere at the bottom of the list. Feel free to edit the following list as appropriate, I sort of jumbled it about a bit in order to promote some of the newer maps:

Since we already have ospdm8 in the pack and the alternative version ospdm8a is mostly cosmetic in nature, we can keep the regular ospdm8.

As for ospdm5a, it might be better to put that one in, as it not only has a higher armour count (shards and a GA), it also has no rail while sporting rather long corridors. The shaft and mega are in better locations too, as far as I can tell. The ramp jumps might be doable with aftershock physics on, but that's not an issue for us now. I think there's also the teddm1 still on? That one can definitely go.

Oh, and the cpm24/cpm24f thing: cpm24f is the one that's playable in regular quake and I think got adapted to QL in that layout. The only thing is, it depends on cpm24 being present for textures/shaders I think. So I'd go with cpm24f (which is tiny in size) on top of the regular cpm24 and put the former in the duel map rotation.

I had a look at the cmp1 maps, they look fine for DM/CA, but aren't really competitive beyond that. Pretty though. You'll notice the Flight item is really a "powerdown", you're better off without it.

I'll have another look into removal candidates, but part of it is really a popularity issue. If a map in rotation constantly gets voted away, that might be an indicator.

i think so too..these maps are only for fun i think..maybe better for ca than dm.. Smilie
